Charlie Dechon is the most highly qualified candidate for Town Judge in Wawarsing, that’s who.

Experience, Experience, Experience

My background with the New York State Police has given me insights into the operation of the Town of Wawarsing Court that cannot be matched by my opponent. Years of investigating felonies, misdemeanors, child abuse, suicides, suspicious deaths, domestic violence, accidents, traffic offenses, property disputes, cruelty to animals, violations of the Environmental Conservation Law, Navigation Law, Aircraft Law, General Business Law, etc., have familiarized me with every area of the Town of Wawarsing Court.
My duties had me interacting with members of all the communities that make up the Town of Wawarsing on an almost daily basis. I have been with our State, County and local Highway Departments during floods, snowstorms, and other natural disasters. I have been with our volunteer firemen and volunteer First Aid and Rescue Squads at numerous accidents and emergencies. I have been with our Corrections Officers in both good times and bad. I have seen firsthand, the effects of drugs and alcohol on families and our community. I know the harm crime has on the welfare and security of our community. I know the agony of telling some of you that a loved one has been injured or killed, as well as the joy of letting you know that a loved one has been found unharmed. I have seen your heartache and I have seen your joy. It is all this that makes me want to continue to serve you, the people, in a way that will have a positive effect on our community. I am asking that you let me serve you as Wawarsing Town Justice.
- I have been involved in every type of trial that is held in the Town of Wawarsing Court.
- I have actual experience with pre-trial hearings of felony offenses committed within the Town of Wawarsing.
- I have actual experience with felony and misdemeanor complaints, as well as informations for violations and traffic offenses.
- I have actual experience with the application and issuance of search warrants and arrest warrants, as well as the issuance of bench warrants.
- I have actual experience with the application and issuance of orders of protection.
Availability
I have been in the Town of Wawarsing Court at all hours of the day and night, all days of the week. I know firsthand that it is not a part time traffic court. Persons arrested for most felonies must be arraigned before a judge. A court order of confinement is necessary to process the prisoner into the custody of the Sheriff at the closest jail which is in Kingston. There is no lockup in the Town of Wawarsing or the surrounding municipalities. If a judge is not available, the Trooper, Deputy, or Police Officer is taken off patrol in order to guard the prisoner until a judge becomes available. This is a stressful situation for the police officer and the offender, as well as leaving the Town unprotected.
I have no potential conflicts of interest. If Judge Wayne Lonstein is forced to excuse himself from a case because of some conflict with his law practice or previous experiences, I will be able to substitute for him.
A Town Judge MUST be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in order for the Town of Wawarsing Court to be effective within our community.
- When our Troopers, Deputies, and police officers need a search warrant to secure evidence that may easily be disposed of they need it now. Crime does not have 9 to 5 business hours.
- When you or a loved one needs an Order of Protection because you have been or may be the victim of violence, you need it now!
Lastly, I will save you money. I am already vested in the New York State Retirement System and receiving a pension from the New York State Police. I will not collect another pension from the Town Justice position. Therefore, the Town will not have to pay into the pension system for my service as Town Justice. I also have medical insurance through the New York State Police. It would be redundant and unnecessary for me to also have insurance through the Town. Thus, the Town will also save money by not having to give me medical insurance.
Finally, and most importantly, with my background and experience, I know the difference between someone who needs a slap on the wrist and someone who needs a smack in the head.
"The challenges facing Troopers and members of the law enforcement community are greater than ever before, and we need individuals like Charles J. Dechon in the judicial system to help the Troopers serve the residents of New York State better."
